Privacy Policy

At BeatHub Africa we believe that trust is earned through transparency. This policy explains how we handle your data — plainly and honestly.

Effective Date:

1. Introduction

Welcome to BeatHub Africa. We are a music marketplace built to connect African producers with artists, creators, and music lovers worldwide. When you use our platform — whether to browse, buy, or sell beats — you place a degree of trust in us. We take that seriously.

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and what rights you have over your own data. By using BeatHub Africa, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you have any questions at any point, we are always reachable at privacy@beathubafrica.com.

2. Information We Collect

We only collect information that genuinely helps us run the platform and serve you better. Here is what we may collect depending on how you use the platform:

Account & Profile Information

When you register, we collect your name, email address, username, profile photo, bio, country, and creator type (artist or producer). This information is used to identify you on the platform and personalise your experience.

Purchase & Transaction Data

We record your purchase history, the licenses you have bought, beat downloads, and order receipts. This helps us deliver your purchases, resolve disputes, and generate your transaction history.

Producer & Upload Data

Producers who upload beats provide audio files, cover artwork, metadata (title, BPM, genre, key, tags), and pricing. We store this content to power your producer storefront and make your beats discoverable.

Payment Metadata

Payments are handled by third-party processors (see Section 5). We do not store your full card number, CVV, or PIN. We may retain a masked card reference, transaction ID, and payment status for record-keeping and dispute resolution.

Activity & Behavioural Data

We log actions such as beats you have played, saved, or favorited; searches you have performed; pages you have visited; and features you have used. This helps us understand what is working and improve the product.

Device & Technical Information

We automatically collect your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device identifiers, referring URLs, and general location (derived from IP). This helps us keep the platform secure and functional.

Communications & Support

If you contact us via email or a support form, we retain that correspondence to resolve your issue and improve our support quality.

Cookies & Similar Technologies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies for login session management, preference storage, fraud prevention, and analytics. See Section 7 for details.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

We process your data only where we have a lawful basis to do so — primarily because it is necessary to provide the service you have requested, because you have given us consent, or because it is required by law.

  • Create, manage, and secure your account.
  • Process purchases and deliver beat files and licenses to buyers.
  • Enable producer payouts and maintain accurate transaction records.
  • Personalise your experience — surfacing beats relevant to your taste and history.
  • Send essential service emails: order confirmations, download links, payout notifications, and security alerts.
  • Send optional marketing emails about new features, promotions, and platform news — you can opt out at any time.
  • Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, and platform policy violations.
  • Analyse platform performance and usage patterns to improve our product.
  • Respond to customer support requests efficiently.
  • Comply with applicable legal obligations.

4. Payments & Financial Data

Third-Party Payment Processing

All payments on BeatHub Africa are processed by trusted third-party payment providers, which may include Paystack, Flutterwave, or Stripe. These providers operate their own privacy and security standards. By completing a purchase, you are also subject to the relevant provider's terms and privacy policy.

What We Do Not Store

We never store your full card number, bank account credentials, CVV, or PIN on our servers. We are not a payment processor and we do not handle raw card data.

What We Do Retain

We retain masked payment references, transaction IDs, amounts, timestamps, and outcomes in order to generate receipts, process refunds where applicable, resolve disputes, and meet our financial record-keeping obligations.

Producer Payouts

To facilitate payouts to producers, we may collect bank account details or mobile money wallet information. This data is stored securely and used solely for the purpose of remitting earnings.

5. Sharing of Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We do not trade it, rent it, or monetise it in any way. The following are the limited circumstances in which we may share information:

Payment Providers

We share transaction data with our payment processing partners to complete purchases and facilitate payouts. These partners are contractually obligated to protect your data.

Infrastructure & Hosting

We use cloud infrastructure providers — such as Supabase, Vercel, and AWS — to store data and run the platform. These providers may process your data on our behalf under strict data processing agreements.

Analytics Tools

We may use analytics services to understand how users interact with the platform. These tools may receive anonymised or pseudonymised data such as page views, session duration, and feature usage.

Legal Authorities

We may disclose your information to law enforcement, regulators, or courts when required by law, court order, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of our platform, our users, or the public.

Business Transfers

In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or part of BeatHub Africa's assets, user data may be transferred to the acquiring entity. We will notify affected users before their data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

6. Cookies & Tracking Technologies

What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. They help websites remember your preferences and understand how you use them.

How We Use Cookies

We use cookies to keep you logged in between sessions, remember your preferences (such as currency and language), protect against cross-site request forgery, and collect anonymised analytics data about how the platform is used.

Third-Party Cookies

Analytics tools and payment providers we work with may place their own cookies. We have no control over those cookies, and you should review the relevant third-party privacy policies for details.

Managing Cookies

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. Note that disabling certain cookies may affect platform functionality, such as staying logged in or processing payments.

7. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide our services. When you close your account, we begin the process of deleting or anonymising your personal data, subject to the following exceptions:

  • Transaction records and financial data may be retained for up to 7 years to meet accounting, tax, and legal obligations.
  • Data involved in an active dispute or legal proceeding will be retained until that matter is resolved.
  • Anonymised or aggregated data that cannot be linked to any individual may be retained indefinitely for platform analytics.
  • Backup copies may persist for a short period after deletion before being fully purged from our systems.

8. Your Rights & Choices

Depending on where you are located, you may have certain rights regarding your personal data. We are committed to honouring these rights wherever applicable:

Access

You have the right to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you. We will provide this in a readable format within a reasonable timeframe.

Correction

If any of your personal information is inaccurate or incomplete, you can update most of it directly in your account settings. You can also contact us to request a correction.

Deletion

You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time. We will process deletion requests promptly, subject to our retention obligations described in Section 7.

Opt-Out of Marketing

You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email we send, or by updating your preferences in your account settings. You will still receive essential service communications.

Data Portability

Where technically feasible, you may request an export of the personal data you have provided to us in a structured, machine-readable format.

How to Exercise Your Rights

To make any of the above requests, contact us at privacy@beathubafrica.com. We will respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity before processing the request.

9. Security

We take reasonable and industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data from unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. These measures include encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS), secure database access controls, hashed password storage, and regular security reviews.

That said, no system is completely impenetrable. While we work hard to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your account and to contact us immediately if you suspect any unauthorised activity.

10. International Data Transfers

BeatHub Africa operates globally and relies on infrastructure providers whose servers may be located in multiple countries. By using the platform, you acknowledge that your data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside your own — including countries that may have different data protection laws.

Where such transfers occur, we take steps to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, consistent with applicable data protection laws.

11. Children's Privacy

BeatHub Africa is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 18 (or the applicable minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has created an account or provided us with their personal data, please contact us immediately at the email below and we will promptly delete the information.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or for other operational reasons. When we make material changes, we will notify you by posting the updated policy on this page and, where appropriate, by sending an email to your registered address.

The "Effective Date" at the top of this page will always indicate when the policy was last revised. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the platform after an updated policy becomes effective constitutes your acceptance of the changes.

13. Contact Us

Privacy is important to us and we are happy to hear from you. If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, want to exercise your data rights, or have a concern about how we handle your information, please reach out:
